The video forgets about Chile's secret involvement in the war what relatively recently was declassified. It was because of the surveillance done by the Chlians that the Brits knew the the argintine cruiser was on its way to the island's . The video also forgot about why HMS Endurance left the area of the falklands, it left to go to South Georgia island where there was a problem with some argintians bothering a research crew, so the ship was sent with its detachment of marines to sort things out, then when they arrived they found out that the Argintians had sent forces to invade. As a result the marine entrenched them self's to defend the island, after inflicting large casualties on the arginies the marine where forced to surrender fortunately no British marine was killed.

Idk why it is so hard to understand that this was basically war driven by political ambitions from individuals of both sides, the dumbest kind of war, and it is a shame that so many had to die for that.

Even more simplified = The British colonised/claimed the Falklands before Argentina even existed. Argentina emerges as an independent state, though with a majority European population, which means, Argentina by definition was a state founded by colonists and imperalism. However, fast forward. Argentina in the 1980s is ruled by a brutal dictator military junta - which killed thousands of its own people. They attempted to distract the people from the failing economy by invading the Falklands. Expecting the British to do nothing. However, they underestimated the British, which still had a powerful navy and strong international support, Europe, US, Commonwealth etc. Fast forward, Argentina invaded the islands without warning, within 48 hours, the British had over 100 ships, and 30,000 men to take the islands. This astonished the world, particularly the US, as the Falklands were 8,000 miles away and the terrain is terrible for warfare, arctic conditions etc. Within months the war was over and the Argies had been totally smashed. The British leader under Thatcher goes down in history and the British prove that they may be an old lion, but the lion can still strike and bear teeth. Funny enough the Star Wars film "The Empire Strikes Back" was actually based on a slogan given to the British by the press. The government in Argentina fell and democracy was re-introduced. This war demonstrates that young Argentian conscripts were no match for the British, who had a professionally trained and volunteer force.

@Davio Canyon Nah man, this story is just interesting to me. I don't judge about who was in the wrong or the right, especially when it comes to pure territorial conflicts. I just got bothered by the fact that I didn't know about that at all. I also didn't know much about the japanese actions during ww2 for example, because they weren't Nazis and therefore of no interest. I just had to know about Pearl Harbor, the nuclear bombs and that Japan was allied with Germany. Then again, 14 years have passed since I went to school so maybe that changed a bit but knowing Germany I highly doubt it.

    • Der eine Onkel

      Der eine Onkel

      9 dögum síðan

@Davio Canyon Because I for my part got the message after one year and still had to learn every little detail and now I am missing some other very interesting things about world history. It's not bad to state the fact at all but pushing everything else aside is. In Germany it goes like 5th-7th grade everything up to ww2, 8-10th grade ww2, maybe the early cold war at the very end, then you can go on with modern history but that's optional after 10th grade. But fact is, there is a whole world full of history but if it is not for Nazis it just gets rushed through.

Although Argentina has its problems, but Latin American countries are becoming more relevant on the world stage and we do not want British in our territories, in the long term it will be impossible for the United Kingdom to maintain sovereignty over the Malvinas (Falklands) without generating tensions with the countries of this region.

The Falklands are and will remain British. Back then Britain could only afford to send a force of 11,000 men, today they can send more than quadruple that number if the forces on the island aren’t already enough. Another attack on the Falklands is nothing short of suicide. Get nukes and at least a third-rate military first, then maybe we can discuss the Falklands.

Actually, it's been british for 300 years, we've owned the country before the state of Argentina was formed, the only reason Argentina tried to invade the Falklands is the simple fact of a unpopular dictator trying to be relevant and popular. In short, no.

Argentina declares war by invading the islands, the whole world expects the Brits to play nice? "their ship wasn't in you exclusion zone!" It was an enemy vessel, it was war. If you are going to tell the story tell it as it is, the Argentinian leader started a war, they were the aggressors, they were defeated, it was their fault.

In the american revolution video, there was a sequence on how the vikings discovered america, then oversimplified went on a vikings game sponsor. Then in the emu war video, the same thing happens, but oversimplified says that you were wrong for thinking the vikings discovered australlia, then he goes on his sponsor, sorry if i'm bad at explaining things.
