12:20 - We have the answer for the Mantis shrimp actually; the studies done on them suggest that despite having more cones, they are *highly* specialized cones that can only see one specific color really well. They actually have worse color vision range than humans in exchange for having a much more vivid perception of the colors they *can see*.

i saw the yellow blue, I SAW IT!!!!! quite easily too, the little kid part of me that wants super powers always loves cool science stuff like this. Im a trained artist n my mom's side of the family is light sensitive, always claimed to "have more colour rods". doubt the truth behind this wivestale but ive always seen colour/light differently, and my brain feels like that colour should have always existed before now and is now trying to add it everywhere. digital transparency of blue over yellow looks,,, bellow now, not cyan!!!! force lightning thumbnail border has my brain tripping out!!!! I also got the red green eventually but with much more struggle, i wonder if the yellow blue was easier as stygian blue/self luminous red/hyperbolic orange is something i see often due to light sensitivites from mild HPPD+neurodivergency eyestatic? anyway, now the black of my LED monitor doesnt look black. Thanks, kyle!!!

holy fuckin hell!!!! thats soooo cool iv been able to cross my eyes n focus on something for a while and iv noticed crazy things from it but i had no idea there was a field of study and known experiments! lol i mean of course there is u canNOT just cross ur eyes n see what it looks like, i have to admit the cross isnt focused isnt these examples so it will b fuzzy keep that in mind, but relax n look at those crosses n slowly cross ur eyes, youll notice the tilt of ur head also aligns each side up n down so keep those on the same line, center the 2 one each other n try to relax n ur brain, within a second or 2 for me, somehow takes the cross as the new reference point of focus for ur brain n u actually dont even have to keep trying to cross ur eyes too much they kinda jus align themselves to a point, n its absolutely amazing u can see the disagreement between whether it should be red or green they kind of shift between each other while mixing at the same time...idk its wild! sry for the long reply im really hopin some ppl actually see what theyre tryin to show ppl, it really is almost a magic trick n feels trippy as hell when u can get it n all u have u do is cross ur eyes on somethin symmetrical, line it up n relax ur brain will take over from there

@MyLittleDashie 7 I see, thank you for that information, excuse me now for I am going to overthink everything and possibly experience yet another existential crisis about the importance or lack there of importance of the human race

    • MyLittleDashie 7

      MyLittleDashie 7

      2 dögum síðan

@LetMeFLY It's indefinite. Because you could have a light wave with a wavelength of 450 nanometers, or 450.0001 nm, or 450.00000000001nm, and you can just keep going like that for as many zeros as you like. Again, it's just a measurement of the distance between two wave crests, so you can always just *slightly* increase that distance, by smaller and smaller amounts, and have a new wavelength of light.

    • LetMeFLY

      2 dögum síðan

huh, thanks for the info bomb, quick question though, is there a finite number for all wave lengths or is it indefinite?

    • MyLittleDashie 7

      MyLittleDashie 7

      2 dögum síðan

I mean, that's really not possible. Wavelengths are literally the distance between wave crests, and since they're a measurement of distance, they're continuous (as opposed to discrete). You would need an uncountably infinite number of cone cells for that to happen.
